On July 7, 2020, Ivory Coast Vice-President Daniel Kablan Duncan submitted his resignation letter to President Alassane Ouattara, which was accepted and finalized on the same day.

The resignation comes as a nation mourns the sudden death of Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly, who passed away last week.

According to Patrick Achi, secretary-general of the Ivory Coast presidency, Kablan Duncan's resignation was due to personal reasons.

Mr. Kablan Duncan had been serving as vice-president since 2017, a position created by a new constitution following a referendum the previous year.

He had previously held the position of prime minister.
