On Sunday night, Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, marking his return to Kenya after undergoing medical treatment in Dubai.
According to sources, Raila had traveled to Dubai for a minor surgery, which has now been completed. He was accompanied by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Suna East MP John Mbadi.
Upon his arrival, Raila was received by his family members, including his wife Ida, daughter Rosemary, and brother Dr. Oburu Oginga, as well as senior ODM politicians, including ODM chairman John Mbadi and Siaya Senator James Orengo.
Following his recovery, Raila is expected to spend the next two weeks at his home in Karen, Nairobi, where he will continue to recuperate. In a statement, ODM chairman John Mbadi confirmed that Raila will operate from his home during this period.
"He is strong. You don’t want to put Raila in a situation where he goes back to the office and it is going to be crowded," said Mbadi.
According to sources close to the ODM leader, Raila is preparing to join President Uhuru Kenyatta in a virtual session to receive the Building Bridges Report. The ODM leader is also keen to limit his interactions in compliance with safety protocols against Covid-19 to ensure social distancing as he continues to recuperate.
