On July 14, 2020, Justice Luka Kimaru granted a police officer accused of killing a 13-year-old Standard 8 pupil in Nairobi's Mathare area a Sh1 million cash bail.

The accused, Duncan Ndiema Ndiwah, alias Champs, was released on bail after the judge warned him against interfering with prosecution witnesses.

According to the court, the accused was given an alternative bond of Sh2 million with one surety of similar amount in the event he fails to raise the Sh1 million cash bail.

The accused was also directed to provide a contact person who will ensure the officer attends court all the time when required.

"Justice Kimaru exercised his discretion in the bail application to release the police officer on bond then granted him a cash bail of Sh1 million," defence lawyer Dunstan Omari stated.

The accused had denied the charges of shooting dead Yassin Hussein Moyo on March 30, 2020, while enforcing curfew orders.

On the material day, Yassin was shot dead at 7:30 pm while standing in the balcony on the third floor of their family residence.
