Published on July 14, 2020, a letter from Deputy Secretary General Caleb Kositany to Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju has sparked a bitter row between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.

At the center of the dispute are hundreds of millions of shillings in the party's financial accounts, with Ruto's allies demanding an audit of the records.

According to Kositany's letter, dated July 13, 2020, he is seeking an updated record of the party's financial accounts from 2016 to date, citing Article 35 (1) of the Constitution of Kenya and the Political Parties Act.

Tuju responded by telling Kositany to proceed and obtain the documents, which he described as public records.

Tuju also criticized Kositany, saying he was still enjoying the party's privileges despite taking the party to court earlier.

"Calling yourself the deputy secretary-general," Tuju stated, adding that they were only waiting for a certificate from the auditor.

"All these exposed is an extreme form of megalomaniacal behavior," Tuju wrote, suggesting that Kositany should address the issue to the party's treasurer, Alfred Kipkorir Mutai.

The dispute is the latest in a series of power struggles between Kenyatta and Ruto, with the head of state having recently removed Ruto's allies from leadership positions within the party.
