On July 13, 2020, Musalia Mudavadi, leader of the Amani National Congress (ANC), made it clear that he is willing to collaborate with Deputy President William Ruto, but only if Ruto endorses him for the presidency.

Mudavadi spoke at a meeting in Lugari, Kakamega County, where he emphasized that he would not be a second fiddle to anyone in the presidential race.

"I am at liberty to work with anyone who shares our aspirations, including the deputy president and other leaders," Mudavadi said. "We welcome Dr. Ruto as long as he supports our bid for the presidency."

However, Mudavadi lashed out at leaders he claimed were trying to create divisions between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta. He alleged that some leaders were using the police to disrupt ANC and Ford Kenya meetings in Western, but would quickly invoke the president's name when challenged.

Mudavadi denied claims that his meetings were meant to undermine the president, saying that he would not allow impunity to reduce the democratic space enjoyed by Kenyans.

MPs Ayub Savula and Titus Khamala expressed their support for President Kenyatta's development agenda, urging him to ignore Mudavadi's critics.
