Published on July 14, 2020, Rwandan President Paul Kagame has expressed frustration with the long delays in road cargo caused by testing at the border by Kenyan and Ugandan authorities.

As a landlocked country, Rwanda relies on imports that travel through either the northern corridor from Mombasa, Kenya, or the southern route from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

President Kagame described the delays as 'unfair', stating that 'coronavirus is killing people, business and even relationships.'

However, his comments have been met with some criticism, as Rwanda was the first country in the region to close its borders at the onset of the pandemic, disrupting cargo transport to Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
