On July 14, 2020, the High Court in Garsen ordered Omar Lali, the boyfriend of the late Tecra Muingai, to undergo a mental examination before taking his plea in court.

Justice Roselyn Korir directed the suspect in Tecra's death to undergo the examination at the Garissa Referral Hospital before he appears in court to take his plea.

Lali, who is currently remanded at the Garsen Police station, will appear before the court on Thursday via a video link to take his plea over murder charges.

He remains the key suspect in Tecra's death, which occurred on May 2, 2020, at a private house in Shella, Lamu Island.

Following Tecra's death, Lali was arrested by police on suspicion that he had pushed her to her death, but his lawyer disputed reports of an argument between the two before Tecra fell.
