On July 2, 2020, agents from the Southern District of New York had to breach the front door of Ghislaine Maxwell's home to detain her, according to a court filing.
Prosecutors claim that Maxwell ignored directions to open the door and attempted to flee to another room, shutting the door behind her.
Maxwell's lawyers had requested a $5 million bond during the bail hearing, arguing that she is not a flight risk.
However, prosecutors countered that Maxwell's conduct at the time of her arrest suggests she may use her wealth and three passports to try to flee justice.
They also pointed out that a security guard told agents that Maxwell's brother had hired a security company staffed with former British military members to guard her New Hampshire property.
Prosecutors further alleged that Maxwell was found with a cell phone wrapped in tin foil, which they described as a 'seemingly misguided effort to evade detection.'
Maxwell is accused of six counts related to the alleged sex crimes of her former boyfriend, Jeffrey Epstein, including conspiracy to entice minors as young as 14 years old to travel in order to engage in illegal sex acts.
She is also accused of taking part in some of the sexual abuse and of committing perjury during a 2016 lawsuit.
