On July 13, 2020, Kenya Airways announced its plan to resume domestic flights on July 15, 2020, after the Kenyan government lifted restrictions on movement in and out of Nairobi and Mombasa counties.
The airline has been working closely with the Ministry of Health and Kenya Airports Authority to implement safety measures and protocols ahead of the resumption.
Kenya Airways will operate two daily flights to Mombasa and one daily flight to Kisumu, with the possibility of increasing frequencies as demand picks up.
According to Allan Kilavuka, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kenya Airways, the airline's top priority remains the health and safety of passengers, crew, and staff.
'I want to thank our customers for giving us the opportunity to serve them and for trusting us to get them to their different destinations safely,' Kilavuka said.
On board the aircraft, customers will be required to adhere to safety measures and protocols in place, which will be continuously reviewed and updated as necessary.
Kenya Airports Authority has also put in place health and safety protocols, which will be evaluated and updated regularly.
The resumption of domestic flights is expected to contribute to the recovery of Kenya's economy, which has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
'The resumption of domestic flights will add to the revival of domestic tourism, which has recorded an all-time low,' said Betty Radier, Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Tourism Board.
