Kenya's Covid-19 infection rate continued to rise on July 13, 2020, as deaths also hit a new high, just a week after most containment measures were relaxed.
According to the Ministry of Health, 189 new cases were reported from 1,205 samples collected, with a 15.7 percent infection rate, up from an average of nine percent the previous week.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe handed over 13 vehicles to select counties to aid with contact tracing, saying this was integral in breaking infection rings, reducing mortality rates, and lessening the social and economic impact of the disease.
Speaking on July 12, 2020, Kagwe emphasized the need for continued adherence to containment measures, saying, 'This is because they are the only weapons we have to wrestle this invincible enemy.'
From the July 13, 2020, tally, Nairobi county reported the highest Covid-19 cases with 147, followed by Kiambu with 20, Machakos with 11, Kajiado with five, and Mombasa with two.
