On Sunday evening, a herdsboy lost his life in a suspected Ethiopian raid in Lokamarinyang village, located in the remote Turkana North Constituency.
The attack occurred at around 5pm, with the raiders targeting livestock.
Turkana County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi confirmed the incident, stating that the boy died while receiving treatment at Lokamarinyang Dispensary.
According to Mr Ndanyi, the raiders are taking advantage of the vast, remote, and poor terrain to launch attacks on Turkana herders.
He added that despite several security patrols, the vastness and poor road network remain a significant challenge in securing the area.
As a result, the police have planned a meeting to review security operations along the expansive border with Ethiopia and South Sudan.
Turkana North MP Christopher Nakuleu condemned the attack, noting that the security situation along the border has deteriorated.
Mr Nakuleu stated that the raiders are using well-executed attacks to instil fear among villagers, forcing them to move away from water points and grazing fields.
He urged the State to urgently boost security at the border to prevent incessant external attacks.
Mr Nakuleu also pointed out that the recent disarmament targeting national police reservists worsened the security situation.
However, Mr Ndanyi assured residents that new police reservists will be recruited to work with police units, as they understand the terrain.
Just last month, the raiders killed a woman who was searching for wild cassava in Kibish near River Natodomeri.
