On Monday, Lamu law courts principal magistrate Allan Temba made a ruling via a video link, charging Omar Lali with the murder of his girlfriend, Tecra Muigai, the late Keroche heiress.
The decision was made after lead prosecutor Eddie Kadebe and his colleague Zakaria Kiongo presented sufficient evidence to have Lali take a plea for the murder.
Lali's lawyers have vowed to prove his innocence, while the family of the deceased is pleased with the decision, citing that justice is being served.
According to the autopsy conducted by chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor, Tecra Muigai died due to trauma to the left side of her face after a fall.
On May 27, Lali was released on a Sh300,000 bond and two sureties provided by his mother and brother-in-law.
It is alleged that Lali initially said Tecra Muigai tumbled down the stairs, but later changed his account to say she had tripped in the bathroom.
As the key suspect in Tecra Muigai's death, Lali is expected to be arraigned at the Garsen Law courts on Tuesday.
