Kenyan Court Allows Police to Detain Terror Suspects

On July 11, 2020, police in Kenya's Uasin Gishu County arrested two men, 68-year-old Ugandan Nasanga Ibrahim and 59-year-old Kenyan Mohamed Ahmed Bisher, in Chepkatet village.

According to police, the suspects were arrested after receiving intelligence reports of their possible involvement in terrorism surveillance and an intended attack within the country.

Police Corporal Kennedy Karanja told the court that during the operation, detectives recovered 2kgs of TNT explosives, 44 pieces of Noble's explosives, seven detonators, and high explosives boosters.

On July 13, 2020, the two suspects appeared before Milimani Senior Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe, who allowed the Anti-Terror Unit Police to hold them for one week as they complete investigations.

The investigation officer stated that the case is complex and requires time, involving multiple agencies.
