On July 13, 2020, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe delivered the daily press briefing on the COVID-19 pandemic at Afya House in Nairobi, Kenya.

Published on July 13, 2020, at 14:10:50, the briefing revealed that 189 new cases were confirmed, bringing the total cases to 10,294. Unfortunately, 12 more Kenyans succumbed to the disease, raising the death toll to 197.

According to Kagwe, the new cases were discovered from 1,205 samples tested in the last 24 hours. However, he noted that a server issue had led to the decreased testing capacity.

Despite the challenges, Kagwe announced that 65 COVID-19 patients had been discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours. He also highlighted the importance of contact tracing and surveillance, particularly with the introduction of a new web-based application.

The application, developed in collaboration with development partners, aims to provide easier tracing and was rolled out to support the country's efforts in combating the pandemic.

As of July 13, 2020, 219 surveillance teams had been deployed to the counties and were engaged in contact tracing.
