Mediamax Network Limited, the parent company of popular media outlets, has taken swift action to protect its employees after a staff member tested positive for Covid-19.

According to a memo issued by CEO Ken Ngaruiya on July 12, 2020, the infected employee, who works in the finance department, has already self-isolated in accordance with home-based care guidelines introduced by the Ministry of Health on June 21, 2020.

As a precautionary measure, the company has instructed close contacts of the positive case to self-isolate for 14 days and has cordoned off the third floor of its offices at Longonot Place, Nairobi, for fumigation until July 14, 2020.

Mediamax has also assigned a medical service provider to handle all matters related to Covid-19 cases, including medication and guidance on quarantine. The company is exploring options to decongest its office and promote social distancing among employees.

Strengthened measures have been adopted to enhance precaution, including monitoring and controlling entry into the office facility. The media house has initiated contact tracing to ensure that others who may have been exposed are advised accordingly.

Employees have been advised to adhere to the Ministry of Health's prevention and control measures for the disease and have been called upon to help in contact tracing.

Mediamax becomes the second media house to report a Covid-19 case after two staffers from the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation tested positive on July 6, 2020.
