On Sunday, a tragic incident shook the residents of Kaumoni village in Matungulu, Machakos County, as a couple was found dead after hanging themselves.
The victims, Dennis Pius, 28, and his 19-year-old lover Susan Ndeto, had travelled from Nairobi to their rural home on Friday, just days after the President lifted travel restrictions from the capital.
According to an eyewitness, the two were seen in the morning, but the room went silent after lunchtime, with none of them seeming to have issues.
However, Ms Ndeto's mother said the two had eloped from Nairobi's Kayole estate, and she went on a frantic search for her daughter after several calls to her phone went unanswered.
Her worst fears were confirmed when she found the two bodies hanging from the roof of their bedroom, with Ms Ndeto kneeling naked with a rope on her neck and Mr Pius almost standing, dressed in a T-shirt and shorts.
The motive behind the suspected suicide is yet to be established, and the bodies were taken to Kangundo Hospital mortuary for investigation.
