On July 13, 2020, Omar Lali, the boyfriend of Keroche Breweries heiress Tecra Muigai, was charged in a Lamu court over her murder.
Tecra Muigai died on May 2 at a private house in Shella, Lamu Island, where she was staying with Mr Lali.
According to reports, Tecra fell and was taken to a local dispensary before being airlifted to Nairobi for treatment, but she succumbed to her injuries.
Following her death, Mr Lali was arrested by police on suspicion that he had pushed Ms Muigai to her death.
There were reports of an argument between them before she fell, a claim that Mr Lali's lawyer has vehemently rejected.
Earlier in May, a court had rejected an application to continue holding Mr Lali in detention, with Lamu Principal Magistrate Allan Temba refusing to extend the pre-trial detention on various grounds.
