Kenya has recorded a significant increase in COVID-19 cases, with 189 new cases reported on July 13, 2020. This brings the country's total number of confirmed cases to 10,294.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the new cases were identified after testing 1,205 individuals, of which 189 tested positive. The youngest person to contract the virus is five years old, while the eldest is 71.
Unfortunately, the country has also lost 12 more patients to COVID-19, with all 12 being from Nairobi. Three of the deceased died at home, while nine lost the fight to the disease in various hospitals.
Kagwe also announced that 65 patients have been discharged, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 2,946.
Kenya's COVID-19 death toll now stands at 197.
"We have tested 1,205 out of which 189 of those tested positive bringing the total number of positive people in the country to 10, 294. Some 106 of those are male while 83 are female. The youngest is five while the eldest is 71," said Kagwe.
"We have discharged 65 patients, bringing the total of recovered to 2,946. We have lost 12 patients as a result of COVID-19, all 12 are in Nairobi with three dying from home," he added.
