On July 13, 2020, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) made a significant decision in the case of Tecra Muigai's death. The 54-year-old Omar Lali, Tecra's former boyfriend, was charged with her murder.

According to the ODPP, the decision to charge Lali was made after reviewing toxicological evidence, detailed post-mortem reports, mobile phone records, and other documentary exhibits and witness statements.

Tecra, the daughter of Keroche Breweries CEO, died in May from injuries sustained in what was said to be a fall from a staircase in the house she was sharing with Lali on April 27.

Siaya Senator James Orengo, who is Tecra's family lawyer, expressed satisfaction with the decision to charge Lali with murder.

Principal Magistrate Allab Temba of the Lamu Law Courts allowed the decision to proceed to the next stage, directing the homicide detectives to present Lali to the High Court in Garsen within 24 hours to take a plea for murder.
