On July 13, 2020, Principal Magistrate Allan Temba made a ruling via video link at a Lamu court, charging Omar Lali, the boyfriend of the late Keroche Breweries heiress Tecra Muigai, with her murder.
According to reports, Tecra died on May 2, 2020, following a tragic accident in her partner's house in Lamu.
Her boyfriend, Omar Lali, 50, was subsequently arrested on May 4, 2020, and detained for 21 days on suspicion of being involved in her death.
During his detention, Lali provided inconsistent statements regarding the incident, initially claiming Tecra fell in the bathroom and later changing his narrative to say she fell from a flight of stairs.
However, Lali denied the allegations, but the police were satisfied with the evidence gathered, concluding that the death was not accidental.
Magistrate Temba gave the police 24 hours to present Lali at a Garsen court to take his plea, stating, 'I allowed the decision by the DPP to be taken to the next stage for murder plea taking...If unable to present him within 24 hours, then he should be given police bond.'
