On July 11, 2020, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho announced that the construction of a state-of-the-art cancer treatment centre in Mombasa was nearing completion.
Located within the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital compound, the centre is a joint project of the national government and the Mombasa County.
Once completed, the centre will be the first of its kind in the region, providing patients with access to radiotherapy treatment without having to travel to Nairobi.
According to Governor Joho, the facility will be a major boost to the existing Day Care Chemotherapy Center, offering patients a more convenient and accessible option for cancer treatment.
