Man City's Champions League Ban Lifted by CAS

Manchester City's two-year Champions League ban has been lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), allowing the team to compete in the tournament next season.

On July 13, 2020, the CAS delivered its ruling, overturning the ban imposed by UEFA in February 2020. The ban was a result of Manchester City being found guilty of serious breaches of Financial Fair Play regulations.

However, the club had lodged an appeal with the CAS, which was heard in June 2020 via video conference. The CAS panel found that there was insufficient conclusive evidence to uphold all of the UEFA's conclusions in this specific case and that many of the alleged breaches were time-barred due to the 5-year time period foreseen in the UEFA regulations.

As a result of the lifted ban, Manchester City is set to play in the Champions League next season. The team, under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola, has already secured a top-four finish in the Premier League this season and could add the FA Cup and the Champions League to their trophy collection.

Chelsea, Manchester United, and Leicester City are among the teams in a pole position to secure a spot in the European tournament.
