Lugari MP Ayub Savula has sparked a heated debate in the Luhya community with a scathing attack on Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
Speaking at a function in Western, Savula accused the two leaders of being party-less and having the intent to auction the Luhya community.
He dismissed them as squatters, saying they do not have any party affiliation but are currently housed in other political parties.
Savula also accused Wamalwa and Oparanya of sabotaging Luhya unity by putting their personal interests first instead of working together to see the community rise to leadership.
He cautioned the Luhya community to beware of the divisions among the Luhya leaders, and take note of the leaders with no mission who are intended to pull down others like Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang'ula in their 2022 election bid.
“Hawa wawili ndio missionaries (these two are the missionaries), wale wenginge ni mercenaries (the other two are mercenaries) na wamequalify na PHD moja ya pull him down (with PHD in pulling others down),” Savula stated.
He also accused some Luhya leaders of taking the community for granted, calling for meetings on company bailouts when the budgets had already been approved.
Political temperatures across the region continue to rise as rival camps eye the vote-block.
One camp is led by Mudavadi and Wetangula, while the other is allied to ODM leader Raila Odinga and led by Oparanya and Wamalwa.
Over the weekend, drama ensued after armed police officers surrounded the home of Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba where Wetangula and Mudavadi were to meet.
The meeting was eventually allowed to proceed after the police withdrew.
A day later, Ford Kenya offices in Nairobi were attacked by armed goons.
