On Saturday, police officers in Machakos County arrested a 69-year-old man accused of defiling his seven-year-old granddaughter.
According to the village elder, Beatrice Mbindyo, the seven-year-old girl was tending her family's herd of cattle when her grandfather allegedly raped her.
The girl returned home crying and informed her relatives about the incident, the village elder said.
Further, the village elder stated that the grandpa gave the little girl Sh60 and threatened her with unspecified consequences should she report the incidence.
Following his arrest, the 69-year-old man was taken to Manyatta Police Station in Masinga Sub-County, awaiting arraignment.
