On July 13, 2020, a COVID-19 patient was discharged from a Nairobi hospital and traveled to Bomet County the following morning.

The patient, who was asymptomatic, interacted with seven other passengers during the journey aboard a South Rift Matatu.

Upon arrival in Bomet, the patient alighted at Longisa alongside two others, while two more passengers alighted at Bomet town, one between Chebole and Kapkatet, and two at Litein.

Health officials have now identified the eight passengers and are appealing to them to reach out to the county response team to prevent further community spread.

Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok urged the passengers to contact the county response team, saying, "We are making an appeal with the passengers who travelled to get in touch with our officer. Please reach out to our officer on this number 0726012387. You will be given instructions on what to do so that all of us are safe."
