South Africa's ambassador to Denmark, Zindzi Mandela, daughter of Nelson Mandela, has passed away at the age of 59, the African National Congress (ANC) has announced.

On July 13, 2020, ANC spokesman Pule Mabe confirmed the news, stating that Zindzi Mandela still had a significant role to play in the transformation of South African society and a larger role in the African National Congress.

State broadcaster SABC reported that Zindzi Mandela died in a hospital in Johannesburg, but did not provide a reason for her death.

As the daughter of Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, Zindzi Mandela rose to international prominence in 1985 when she read out her father's rejection of then-president P.W. Botha's offer for freedom.
