On July 13, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta signed several bills into law at State House, an event that turned into a stern lecture for National Assembly Majority leader Amos Kimunya.
According to reports, the President was visibly disturbed by the Kipipiri Member of Parliament's tolerance of the Tanga Tanga brigade, a group allied to Deputy President William Ruto, in crucial committees that are key to the implementation of the BBI report.
Kimunya was reportedly taken to task by the President for retaining some of the de-whipped Tanga Tanga lawmakers in powerful committees, including the Finance Committee, where Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wa was proposed for membership despite being ousted from the Budgets and Appropriations Committee.
The President's concerns were centered around the potential threat posed by the Tanga Tanga brigade to the implementation of the BBI report, with the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee being a prime example of a committee dominated by DP Ruto's allies.
