Jose Mourinho has praised Arsenal's improvement under Mikel Arteta, despite the Gunners' struggles in the domestic scene. The north London side currently occupy ninth place and are in danger of missing a place in European football.

Arteta took over as Arsenal boss in December 2019, succeeding Unai Emery who was sacked. The Gunners sat 10th on the league standings at the time following a string of poor results.

However, Mourinho believes the Emirates club is on an upward trajectory under the tutelage of Arteta. 'I think the game was more tactical, I think Mikel found a way to find them to play and be stable and improve. They are improving,' Mourinho said.

Despite Arsenal dominating the match away from home, it was Spurs who had the last laugh as they claimed all the three points and bragging rights. The result sent Spurs above Arsenal who effectively dropped to ninth as their European football chances suffered a massive blow.

Before the league meeting, Arsenal had picked three wins and a draw in four of their previous league matches. Arteta appears to be struggling to steady the ship, but Mourinho's comments suggest that the Spaniard's influence is starting to bear fruit.
