On July 13, 2020, Laikipia residents took to the streets to protest the increasing cases of bandit attacks in the region, particularly in Ol-Moran and Ng'arua divisions.
According to the residents, the attackers, suspected to be from neighboring Baringo County, have been causing havoc and suffering to families living in the area.
Speaking at Luoniek village in Ol-Moran division, the residents called on Interior and Government Coordination Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai to intervene and improve security in the area.
The residents, led by Sosian Ward MCA Jacob Endung', accused the Anti-Stock Theft Unit officers of laxity, claiming they took several hours to respond to distress calls despite being barely a kilometre away from the scene.
"We cannot be losing lives each and every day. The State has to take action against these bandits," said Endung'.
The residents also called for the immediate redeployment of National Police Reservists suspended last year by the State.
