Dr. Adisa Lugaliki, a 38-year-old consultant obstetrician, was a pillar of strength and kindness in her community. Born on May 15, 1982, in a family of eight, she was the fourth-born daughter.
On a fateful Monday, her siblings advised her to get checked for Covid-19 after she developed an uncomfortable cold. She was admitted to the Aga Khan University Hospital and diagnosed with Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), a condition she had no idea she had.
As her condition worsened, she was transferred to the ICU, where she succumbed to complications arising from Covid-19 in the early hours of Friday. Her family, friends, and medical fraternity were left processing the pain of her untimely demise.
Dr. Lugaliki was a brilliant, selfless, and dedicated doctor who had a loving and kind heart. She was a natural-born leader, as described by her former schoolmate, Ms. Apondi Odhiambo. Her former medical colleague, Suzanne, remembered her as a beautiful soul with a big laugh and a confident stride.
Her dedication and love for her job were not lost on her family, who remembered her as 'daktari' - the family doctor and great advisor to her siblings. She was the amazing sister with whom they shared an unbreakable bond, and they had plans to grow old together and play with their grandchildren.
Dr. Lugaliki's family and friends will remember her for her bubbly personality, her love of hosting get-togethers, and her dedication to her job. She leaves behind a set of 11-year-old twins and a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire and touch many lives.
