'Unicorn' Hamilton Celebrates Styrian Grand Prix Win

On a day of high drama at the Styrian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton delivered a masterful performance to take his first win of the season and the 85th of his career, July 12, 2020.

As he celebrated his victory, Hamilton raised a podium fist in a gesture of solidarity with global anti-racism protests, echoing the iconic stance of American athletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos at the 1968 Olympic Games.

Hamilton's action was part of a pre-race display of support for the sport's anti-racism stance, with at least four drivers taking a knee and others wearing 'End Racism' t-shirts. However, the television coverage of the drivers' symbolic act lasted only two seconds, switching instead to a pre-planned aerial demonstration.

Hamilton, the sport's only black race winner and champion, praised his Mercedes team for their on- and off-track excellence, saying,
