Maureen Atieno, a resident of Kakola in Nyando Sub-County, tragically lost her life after being electrocuted by a refrigerator at her home.

According to Nyando OCPD Leonard Matete, Atieno was opening the fridge when she was electrocuted instantly. Her father-in-law had reported the incident, stating that Atieno was going to pick some fish to fry and take to the market.

Matete confirmed that Atieno began wailing before falling to the ground. Despite efforts to rush her to Boya Hospital, she died en route. Her body was later transferred to the morgue at Ahero Sub-County hospital.

Investigations into the incident have been launched, with Kenya Power called in to assist with the probe. Matete stated, "We are investigating the matter, we have called in Kenya Power to check on what might have gone wrong."

Atieno's death comes just six months after her husband, William Omondi, also known as Sisqo, was murdered in Busia in November 2019.
