On Saturday morning, Mohamed Abdi Hashi, the former leader of Puntland, passed away in Nairobi while receiving medical treatment.
According to a statement from Puntland leader Said Abdullahi Deni, Hashi was a key figure in the establishment of Puntland and served as its first deputy president.
Hashi held the position of interim president of Puntland from 2004 to 2005 and was also the president of the United Somali Party (USP) during the 1990s.
