Kenya Airways is set to resume its domestic flights on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, following the lifting of the restriction of movement in and out of Nairobi and Mombasa counties.
The national carrier has been working closely with the Government, the Ministry of Health, and the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) to implement a wide range of safety measures and protocols to ensure the health and safety of passengers, crew, and staff.
As part of its preparations, Kenya Airways will operate two daily flights to Mombasa and one daily flight to Kisumu, with plans to increase frequencies as demand picks up.
According to Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kilavuka, the airline's utmost priority remains the health and safety of its passengers, crew, and staff.
'I want to thank our customers for giving us the opportunity to serve them and for trusting us to get them to their different destinations safely,' Mr. Kilavuka said. 'A special mention to our staff for their outstanding contribution in ensuring that our customers continue to be reunited with their loved ones across our network.'
While onboard the aircraft, customers will be required to adhere to the safety measures and protocols in place, which will be continuously reviewed and updated as necessary.
Kenya Airports Authority has also put in place the recommended health and safety protocols, and the public is assured that the airport is ready to reconnect with its users.
The resumption of domestic flights is expected to contribute towards the recovery of Kenya's economy, which has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
'The resumption of domestic flights will add to the revival of domestic tourism that has recorded an all-time low,' said Betty Radier, Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Tourism Board. 'We will call upon Kenyans to take up opportunities to step out of their homes for a breath of fresh air and experiential get away from their homes.'
