Kenya Airways is set to resume its domestic flights on July 15, 2020, following the lifting of movement restrictions in Nairobi and Mombasa counties.
According to a press statement, the national carrier has been working closely with the Government through the Ministry of Health and Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) to implement a wide range of safety measures and protocols.
The airline will operate two daily flights to Mombasa and one daily flight to Kisumu, with plans to increase frequencies as demand picks up.
Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kilavuka emphasized the airline's priority on the health and safety of passengers, crew, and staff.
"I want to thank our customers for giving us the opportunity to serve them and for trusting us to get them to their different destinations safely," Mr. Kilavuka said.
While onboard, customers will be required to adhere to safety measures and protocols in place, which will be continuously reviewed and updated as necessary.
Kenya Airports Authority has also put in place recommended health and safety protocols, with Ag. Managing Director Alex Gitari assuring the public that the airport is ready to reconnect with users.
The resumption of domestic flights is expected to contribute to the recovery of Kenya's economy, which has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The resumption of domestic flights will add to the revival of domestic tourism, which has recorded an all-time low," said Betty Radier, CEO of the Kenya Tourism Board.
