Uhuru's Allies Slam Mt Kenya Leaders Over Succession Politics ¶
President Uhuru Kenyatta's allies have come out strongly against Mt Kenya leaders who are reportedly planning to succeed him after he leaves office in 2022.
Senator Irungu Kang'ata, a close ally of the President, said it was premature for leaders to convene and plan on Uhuru's succession at the expense of development and fulfilling of pre-election promises.
Speaking during an event in Murang'a on Saturday, July 11, Kang'ata termed as premature politics for leaders to convene and plan on Uhuru's succession at the expense of development and fulfilling of pre-election promises.
"I have a problem if the leaders were speaking on Uhuru's succession. I strongly believe that this is the time to talk about power provision, roads, agriculture and not politics," the Senate Majority leader said.
Uhuru's allies have blasted Central Kenya leaders for plotting the head of state's succession in the region and in the national arena.
Among those who echoed Kang'ata's sentiments were Maragua MP Mary wa Maua and her Kigumo counterpart Wangari Mwaniki, who maintained there was no leadership vacuum in the vote-rich region.
They all reiterated that Uhuru was the kingpin and was not interested in politics but development.

Among the top leaders who were present included governors Kiraitu Murungi (Meru), Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka Nithi), Laikipia's Ndiritu Muriithi and Lee Kinyanjui of Nakuru.
Others were Peter Kenneth (former Gatanga MP), Senator Charles Kibiru (Kirinyaga) and Speaker Muturi who chaired the session.
Though they said the agenda was to congratulate the Kipipiri lawmaker, speculation was rife that succession politics was at the heart of their discourse.
