Covid-19: Kenya's Case Load Surpasses 10,000

Kenya's Ministry of Health reported 379 new cases of the coronavirus on Sunday, July 12, 2020, bringing the total case load to 10,105. This milestone was reached about four months after the country's first case was reported on March 13.

According to the Ministry, the new cases were among 7,050 samples analyzed in the last 24 hours, out of a total of 215,037 samples tested so far. The youngest patient was two years old, while the oldest was 97.

Of the new patients, 376 were Kenyans and three were foreigners. Two hundred and fifty-three were male, and 126 were female. The country's death toll rose to 185, with one more patient succumbing to the virus.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe also announced that 49 more patients had been discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,881.

The new cases were distributed across various counties, with Nairobi recording the largest number of infections - 209. Kiambu had 49 cases, followed by Busia with 38, Migori with 19, Mombasa with 16, and Kajiado with 12.
