Archbishop Philip Anyolo of Kisumu reminded the youth that the extended school closure is meant for their safety, urging them to adhere to COVID-19 safety guidelines.

Speaking during the Holy Mass at the Holy Family Basilica aired on KBC Channel 1 on July 12, 2020, Archbishop Anyolo said, 'The Extended period of your stay at home is meant to protect you from contracting this virus. It is neither a punishment nor anybody's fault.'

He advised the youth to use this time to strengthen their relationship with God, parents, community members, and friends, and to maintain a close relationship with God through prayers.

Archbishop Anyolo, the Chairperson of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), also urged the youth to keep themselves busy by reading helpful materials and using social media responsibly.

Recently, the Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha announced that schools will remain closed until 2021, with the expectations that infections will have reduced.
