On July 11, 2020, a 69-year-old man in Machakos County was arrested by police officers for allegedly defiling his seven-year-old granddaughter.
According to Beatrice Mbindyo, a village elder in Kathiani B, the seven-year-old girl was tending her family's cattle when her grandfather accosted and raped her.
The girl returned home crying and informed her relatives about the incident, which prompted the arrest of her grandfather.
During the alleged defilement, the grandfather reportedly gave the girl Sh60 and threatened her with unspecified consequences if she reported the incident.
The 69-year-old man was taken to Manyatta Police Station in Masinga Sub-County, where he awaits arraignment.
