On Sunday, July 12, 2020, a group of armed youths stormed the Ford-Kenya offices in Nairobi, causing chaos and destruction.
A contact from the office confirmed the incident to Kenyans.co.ke, but was unable to provide further details as he was out of the country at the time.
"I am outside Nairobi and I would have to ascertain what happened. I am just part of a secretariat and not a member so I would have to check with the party members," he said in response to questions about the party leadership's actions.
According to a video shared by the Daily Nation, the youths were seen hurling stones into the building located along Ole Dume Road in Nairobi.
A guard was seen watching helplessly as the vandalism took place.
The incident began at around 10 a.m. when the youths attempted to access the office but were repulsed by security officers.
After being denied access, they resorted to hurling stones into the building, luckily causing no injuries.
The attack is believed to be linked to a recent rift in the party's leadership, with a faction supporting leader Moses Wetangula at odds with another faction backing Kanduyi MP Athanas Wamunyinyi.
Wamunyinyi's faction had earlier accused Wetangula of threatening and intimidating members who signed to oust him, as well as forcing members to refute their signatures used to oust him.
Wetangula was also accused of threatening Ford-Kenya members opposing him with de-whippings from National Assembly committees and overseeing their recall.
