On July 12, 2020, the head of the Catholic Church in Kenya, His Eminence John Cardinal Njue, appealed to the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) to continue airing Sunday masses.
Cardinal Njue welcomed the reopening of the economy and places of worship, but noted that airing of Sunday Masses was necessary since children below the age of 14 and senior citizens are barred from attending.
“Catholic bishops have written to KBC to continue airing Holy Mass. We hope they consider”, he said.
Since the closure of places of worship in the country due to COVID-19, KBC has been airing all the Sunday masses.
Cardinal Njue expressed his gratitude to all media stations, especially KBC, for airing their live Holy masses since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He made the appeal during the Holy Mass aired on KBC channel 1.
The Catholic church is set to reopen its doors to congregants on July 14, 2020, in line with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive to reopen places of worship with not more than 100 people per service.
