Published on July 12, 2020, a group calling itself the Luhya Unity Restoration Forum has appealed to leaders in Western Kenya to end their persistent squabbles and work together for the region's development.
The lobby group, which is concerned about the region's political direction, has urged Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi, and Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula to put aside their differences and work together.
According to the group, the region cannot afford to have its leaders reading from different scripts every electioneering period, which has led to divisions among the Luhya community.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, a section of Mount Kenya leaders have differed over the clamour for the region's political torch in the ongoing succession politics.
Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata has accused former Gatanga Member of Parliament Peter Kenneth of holding premature campaigns and scheming to succeed the Head of State as the Mt Kenya kingpin.
However, some leaders led by Gatanga Member of Parliament Joseph Nduati have differed with Kang'ata, arguing that Kenneth is well within his right to seek the support of the region ahead of the 2022 political contest.
