As the 2022 elections draw near, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto are engaged in a heated battle for the crucial Mount Kenya votes.
Published on July 12, 2020, the two leaders have adopted different strategies to woo the region after a highly publicized fallout that saw President Kenyatta wrestle control of the Jubilee party from DP Ruto's sympathizers.
DP Ruto has opted to work with new leaders such as Moses Kuria, Mwangi Kiunjuri, and Ndindi Nyoro in a bid to capture pockets of votes from the region.
He has also deployed his troops across the country to sell his 'Hustler' narrative to win the support of low-income Kenyans, popularly known as hustlers who form the bulk of voters.
Meanwhile, President Kenyatta has reached out to his long-term political rivals in the opposition, including Raila Odinga, Gideon Moi, and Isaac Ruto, in a bid to bolster his support.
He has also significantly trimmed down Ruto's responsibilities amidst concerns that the DP was using the launch of government projects to advance his 2022 agenda.
The Uhuru-led alliance will also be banking on the push for constitutional reforms to sweep to power in 2022.
