On July 12, 2020, the Ministry of Health received confirmation from the National Treasury that COVID-19 risk allowances for frontline health workers were available for disbursement.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi made the announcement during a government briefing in Kwale County, stating that the funds would cover the initial three months since the country confirmed its first COVID-19 case.

"The Treasury has given us confirmation that these funds are available, and so it is only a matter of time before these funds are disbursed," Mwangangi said.

She also hinted at expanding support to other frontline workers, including administrators and those providing essential services.

According to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, the Treasury had been authorized to release Sh3 billion to pay frontline health workers in May.

Kwale County Governor Salim Mvurya confirmed that his county had received its allocation of Sh42 million and assured frontline health workers of the ministry's support in providing Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).
