On July 7, 2020, John Keige, the owner of Jiweke Tavern, a popular restaurant in Nairobi, collapsed and died outside his home in Nyari Estate.
According to his sister Elizabeth Keige, John had taken lunch at his home when he decided to go for a walk. However, he collapsed outside the gate and was rushed to Nairobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His doctor attributed the cause of death to a heart attack, dismissing speculation on social media that he may have died of COVID-19.
John Keige was a well-known businessman in Nairobi, and his restaurant, Jiweke Tavern, was famous for its good service provision and events such as Jiweke Sundays and Jiweke Furahidays.
He will be buried at a private funeral on July 14, 2020, at the family's rural home in Muruka Kandara, Murang'a county.
