On a fateful day in May, 10-year-old Limo Poriot's life took a drastic turn. He was herding his parents' goats in Naudo village, Tiaty, when a team of police officers on an operation drove past, shooting him twice in the process.

Poriot, a Standard One student, was left with severe injuries on both legs. One of the bullets damaged his leg, which was later amputated just below the knee. He spent close to two months in hospital before being discharged on Tuesday.

According to Poriot, one of the officers who shot him came to where he was lying and said sorry before leaving him for dead. The officer, who was in jungle uniform, knelt down and expressed remorse before abandoning him.

'One of the officers came to where I was lying, and saw me cry in pain. He placed his rifle down, knelt and said sorry before leaving,' Poriot recounted.

Poriot's brother, Alex Krop, said they regret sending him to the bush to graze the animals. They want justice for the boy and hold the government responsible for the loss.

'The boy was innocent, all we need is justice as a family. His life will never be the same again,' Krop said.

Poriot's parents, Hosea Lomada and Christina Lomada, are struggling to cater for their son's daily medical bills. Baringo County Commissioner Henry Wafula has promised to review the matter and see how the boy will be assisted.

'Let him heal, we wish him quick recovery. Together with my county commander, we will review and see how the boy will be assisted,' Wafula said.
