On July 11, 2020, Liverpool's pursuit of a record Premier League points tally suffered a setback as they were held to a 1-1 draw by a highly disciplined Burnley side at Anfield.
The Reds were largely dominant throughout the match but were left frustrated by the brilliance of Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope, who made a string of brilliant saves in the first half to deny the likes of Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Despite playing the frightening Premier League champions, Burnley were far from intimidated as they continued to push for an equaliser, which eventually came in the second half in contentious fashion.
Striker Jay Rodriguez drove a powerful low shot past Alisson Becker in the 69th minute after Burnley launched a ball forward from an offside freekick, with replays suggesting that Mohammed Salah was not offside for the free kick to be awarded.
Chances continued to come for Liverpool but Jurgen Klopp's men simply could not get past Nick Pope for the winner, with Salah also having a chance to win it late in the game but a tame shot from his weaker right foot was easily saved by the Burnley shot stopper.
The result came with a number of ramifications for Liverpool as they dropped their first points at Anfield in one and a half years, and will also have to win their remaining three games if they are to surpass Manchester City's record points tally of 100 points.
