On July 11, 2020, a meeting of DP Ruto supporters was held at the residence of Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama in Bungoma County.

The meeting was led by former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, who is a close ally of DP Ruto.

Other notable attendees included Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa and Vihiga MP Benjamin Washiali.

However, the agenda of the meeting remains unclear, as Khalwale did not disclose any details about the gathering.

"I thank Hon. Dan Wanyama (Webuye West) for hosting us (Hon. Washiali, Barasa, Malulu and myself) at Webuye for a meeting and gathering of Bungoma County leaders," Khalwale posted on Facebook.

The meeting comes at a time when Western Kenya is being heavily courted by politicians ahead of the 2022 general elections.

Other politicians, including ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford-K leader Moses Wetangula, are also vying for support in the region.
