On July 11, 2020, Kenya reported a significant increase in COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 9,726. This surge is attributed to 278 new cases confirmed in the last 24 hours.
According to Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi, the latest cases were identified from a sample size of 1,403.
As Kenya opens its borders, there is a likelihood of an increase in numbers, Mwangangi noted. While many Kenyans are adhering to the set guidelines, she emphasized that there is not much the government can do to ensure everyone adheres to the rules.
Three more patients have succumbed to the virus, bringing the death toll to 184. In contrast, 99 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours, with the total number of recoveries now standing at 2,832.
Dr. Mwangangi expressed appreciation for healthcare workers fighting the pandemic and urged the public to contain the virus by observing the measures in place.
Ministry of Health Director General Patrick Amoth reiterated the importance of protecting health workers, who are more exposed as they are at the frontline. He stated that the MOH is providing them with PPE and psychosocial support to ensure their safety.
The new cases are distributed across various counties, with Nairobi reporting cases in Dagoretti North, Kibra, Langata, and other areas. Kajiado, Kiambu, Machakos, Nakuru, and Mombasa also reported cases.
