On July 11, 2020, thousands of Malians gathered in Bamako, the capital city, to protest against the government's handling of the country's affairs.
The protests, which were the third of their kind, were sparked by widespread frustration with corruption, cronyism, and weak public services. Additionally, concerns over electoral malpractice and the government's inability to curb inter-communal and jihadist violence have further fueled the discontent.
Organized by a new coalition and led by imam Mahmoud Dicko, the demonstrations have become a rallying point for those seeking change in Mali.
As one protester was quoted by AFP, 'We don't want this regime any more.'
